[Ansteorra] A question for Ansteorran artisans

Greetings,

I, personally, believe that this would be a good idea if this was a
competition for various artists in differing fields for the yearly title
of being the "Honorable ______ to the Crown" (ie.:Brewer, Jeweler,
Dressmaker, Woodworker, Fool, etc.). And perhaps a Titled Artisan who
did well at multiple competitions (greatest average score?) . . . . . .
. . Reasoning below.

As for Rights and Responsibilities . . . . . . . . Should they be the
holder of the Crown Title, they should promote their field to the best
of their ability, be available to teach at Crown College, and to
organize other of like mind to excel as well. They would have the right
to be called upon by the Crown or Nobles for information or that one
piece of legendary work. They would have the right to add the title
"Honorable ______ to the Crown" to their name for the term. . . . . . .
. . Reasoning below.

<->  <->  <->  <->  <->  <->  <->  <->  <->  <->  <->  <->  <->  <->
<->  <->
The next piece is just my own personal opinion and that is all.

The reasoning for dividing the Title or Competition into various little
groups or art forms is many fold: Historical Precedence, encouragement
for others to form guilds, to network artists of like mind. But also it
is a matter of personal opinion as well. There are those artists out
there whose art form is rather rare in comparison to the number of
artists in other fields. Not to say that there chosen field dose not
hold it's own complexities, but it is down heartening to be the only one
of your own field to show up at a competition. And then to be judged by
a person that has little knowledge in that field is even further
depressing. (Example: a Gem cutter being judged by a Textile Laurel).

But if we go with a segmented competition, then the Laurels who have a
knowledge in that field and the artists would be evenly matched, and
much more would be accomplished (sharing of knowledge). It would also
be a place to go if you had an interest in that field and wanted to
learn more. Or if a Noble was looking for the best that they could find
in a particular art form for a special event, then they may show up at a
metal casting event to look for site tokens, or a sculpting / pottery
event for "Scarlet Grail".

This also leads me to teaching and Colleges. Year after year I look at
the classes being taught at the various colleges and have to make the
decision as for do I really want to go. Each year I find that may of
the classes really don't peak my interest because I am one of the
'other' artists, and many times I just don't go. But with a segmented
competition, you will at least have good representation of all the art
forms in the kingdom, and perhaps better turn-outs.

But with winning the competition also come the responsibility to get to
know your competition (make contact lists), network with others that
perhaps have even more knowledge that you in the field (ie. Laurels or
better), and be generally available to others.

At this point, I have to admit that I am tired and that this 'Reasoning'
is even brief to me. Please do understand. Talk it over as you will or
flame as the mood suits. It is just one person's opinion.
