> In an effort to try to figure out how to attract new people and keep them
in, here are a series of questions that I'd like as many of you as possible
to answer...so that I can get a good "demographic"... keep answers
brief...please...
>
> 1. What attracted you to the SCA?
My love of the midieval days and dreams of living in that time. My
imaginings of valiant fighters and damsals in distress, castle walls on high
and merchanting below.
> 2. What is your perspective of what the SCA is to you?
The SCA to me is the embodiment of those who feel they were born in the
wrong timeframe, or those who wish old skills not be lost in time.
> 3. Where do you invest the most time and energy in the SCA (household,
local group, kingdom, specific activity)
I spend the majority of my efforts and time in our household and brewing.
Thats when my wife can drag me from my forge.
> 4. How long before you started to take initiative in the SCA (applying for
an office, organizing an activity, etc.?)
I started day one back when I first started, I started in Northkeep before
it bacame a barony. I was involved in a group who did fighting with padded
pvc pipe lol and welp 2 people I admire to this day were there and talked to
me about the SCA and have been hooked ever since.
> 5. Were there instances that could have "run you out of the SCA"..why did
they not...or why did you come back?
All the Poloticing that seems to follow. It didnt drive me off because I am
too stubbern to let things like that drive me off and besides the 2 who were
doing the poloticing wanted just that us to quit.
> 6. How long before you burned out? Why did you burn out? Is there anything
anyone could have done to help keep you from "burning out"?
Burned out? Seems only officers who never do anything but hold offices burn
out (or those constant cooks/autocrats/etc and never take time to .... enjoy
the game we play.).
> 7. What do you get out of the SCA?
I get a sense of belonging and comunity. Most people in the sca treat others
with openness and understanding.
> 8. If you have your AoA...how long did you get it after starting to
participate in the SCA?
Honestly? lol dont laugh 10 years after I started playing did I finally get
my AoA.
>
> and last but not least...why do you think that people should join the SCA
and stay in it?
I think anyone wishing to learn things done by hand, to feel like part of a
community and to see those in need of help being helped. In this day and age
I wish my child to be raised going to sca events so he can see people
helping people. If nothing else attracts people they have never lived till
they are sitting at a camp fire and roveing minstrals happen by.
