Granted. But assume for a moment that the event was, say, in Drachenwald,
in a period castle, and there was enough lead-time that everybody could
make an extra-special effort to have period-looking clothes (it seemed to
work at the old Lions and Lyonesse tournies here in Ansteorra, for
example.) How would that be bad?

Um... maybe do them the same way these things were done in period? Fresh
vegetables, freshly-slaughtered meat, wood fires, etc.

So you're saying that we shouldn't even bother with fixing the things we
*can* fix? Isn't that a bit like saying "well, my shoes aren't period, so
it doesn't matter if I wear a T-shirt and jeans instead of a tunic and trews."

I guess Ansteorra is in trouble because we call our fighting area "the list
field" instead of "the eric"? Let's face it, some SCA traditions are kind
of silly, and just because they've been around for a while doesn't mean
they're sacred.

Who's started--and stopped--a few traditions in his time.
