Perhaps you are thinking of Sekanjabin? The Persian mint drink made
famous in the SCA by Master Cariadoc? However, there are a number of
similar, medieval drinks that sound like they would make good
alternatives to even Sekanjabin. I'm not sure where to get some of the
ingredients called out in some of the period recipes, though. Here is a
Florilegium file on these drinks:
jalabs-msg (71K) 7/ 3/04 Drinks with a sugar or honey-syrup
base such
                                        as Sekanjabin (Persian Mint
Drink).

Or for more non-alcoholic beverages, see these files:
infusions-msg (24K) 3/26/02 Period infusions. Herbal "teas".
Barley tea.

beverages-NA-msg (89K) 6/23/05 Non-alcoholic beverages.

Or for some mildly alcoholic beverages:
kvass-msg (73K) 7/ 4/04 Russian drink made from bread or
grains.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/BEVERAGES/kvass-msg.html
small-beer-msg (20K) 11/ 6/03 A weakly alcoholic beer made using
the grain
from a previous batch of beer

There are more files on period beverages in the BEVERAGES section of
the Florilegium, as well.
