another big temporary urban environment is one specifically engineeered to
be so - "burning man", in the fall (been four times .. pennsic six, numerous
long term pagan & scadian gatherings, sturgis & daytona many times times,
renn faires, celtic ferstivals, etc .... ). the compare and contrast
between the burner culture and scadian would be *very* interesting (strong
parallels, strong differences). and if looking for a totally dysfunctional
third subject for contrast, track down the next "rainbow family gathering"
....

did work similar you yours in '80 for a summer history project .. traveled
by harley all over the country to visit surviving (the farm), failed, and
transformed (arcosanti) "counterculture communities" to see what made them
tick, what made them work, what made them fail ..... for a roll-your own
"post 60's american conterculture" class i was working on (needless to say,
scadia was well represented).

Hello, everyone! Thanks to an understanding faculty, I'm writing my MA
thesis on Pennsic. Because I'm in Geography, I'm looking at it as a
temporary urban space. I am looking for people to participate in my study in
two ways: 1) a short interview that will give me some demographic data and
2) an interview or questionnaire that will take half an hour to an hour and
look at the way in which you experience and interact with the spaces created
at Pennsic. If you're interested in being interviewed or filling out a
questionnaire, there will be an opportunity to say so at the end of the
survey, or you can contact me directly at the address/phone number below.
The survey is set up so that people who will be attending Pennsic for the
first time this year can also fill it out, as well as those who no longer
attend.

All information will be kept confidential, and the information from the
survey will only be published in aggregate form. If you have any questions
or concerns, or if you would like a paper or email copy of the survey to
fill out instead, feel free to contact me.

If you know someone who might be interested in participating, feel free to
forward this email and link to them. Please let me know if you forward it
to a mailing list, so I can avoid duplicate postings.

If, for some reason, you get an error message when you try to take the
survey, please wait a little while and try again; it may be busy! (NOTE:
If the error is about missing an ID number, make sure the URL ends in
105 and try again.)

Many thanks!
