Subject: [Apprentice] Recommendation Quest

:
: A Quest for the Apprentice list.
:
: Written with tongue firmly planted in cheek, but with a serious message
: intended....
: I am writing this because our poor court scribe has been given to hastily
: writing promissory award scrolls at the last minute before court. The
King and
: Queen would like to give the local members of the populace awards. They
know
: there are deserving people out there, but no letters were received
extolling
: the work and accomplishments of the populace. Imagine traveling the
length
: and breadth of the kingdom to hold court and then to have no advice from
the
: local populace on what awards to give. The outcome of this is hastily
made
: recommendations made the day of the event. Deserving gentles go without
: recognition if they are not on the minds of King's vassals. The Royal
spies only
: travel so much and are not a reliable source of information on the local
goings
: on. The Courtiers, well, you know them, mostly interested in advancing
: their own fortunes. Unfortunately the Royal Soothsayer's have not come
up with
: a method for casting about for the names of deserving gentles. Resulting
in
: deserving members of your Kingdom are going unrecognized because your
letters
: were not received. Yes, I am aware that you have to do that really,
really
: hard part ... the letters have to be either put in the mail or the 'sent'
: button hit. You only need to be as eloquent as the Queen and your
spelling only
: as good as the King's. Now that should not be that hard, should it? I
am
: sure that there are Royal tutors able to read and willing to tell the
Royal pair
: what you meant to say in your letters. So please I beseech you, please
: help out your poor court scribes. She would very much like to make out
suitable
: scrolls even if they are promissory's the night before and not have the
wet
: ink smudge the Royal's hands.
:
: I propose a quest for this list to do some not so random acts of kindness.
:
: The guidelines for writing recommendations for the Quest.
:
: Someone you do not know very well and they cannot be on this list.
: Check your Kingdom's OP (Order of Precedence) on the Heraldry page, make
sure
: they do not already have the award you are recommending they for.
: The recommendation should be for a AOA or Grant level award.
: Read your kingdom webpage for any information on how to submit an award
: recommendation.
: Sent an extra copy of your recommendation letter to the persons local
: Baron/Baroness. (They do tend to get asked about people from their local
area who
: are recommended.
: Important!! Do not tell the person you have recommended them for an award.
: Better to look surprised than disappointed.
: If you are not sure if your kingdom's Royals pass on recommendation
letters,
: send a copy to the new set of Royal.
:
: What do you get?
: The satisfaction of knowing that you had a positive impact on someone.
: Even if they don't get the award right now, the extra letter you sent to
the
: local landed baron/ess might get them noticed for a baronial award. If
they
: get the award, you get warm fuzzy feelings for maybe, just maybe lessening
the
: disgruntled factor that happens when deserving people aren't recognized.
:
: Why?? I'm on the royal court right now. I think the last three events
I
: was at had only two recommendation letters written before the event. If
I had
: a dollar for every person sitting in court who deserved an award, well...
: I wouldn't have to worry about financing Pennsic this year.
:
: So, A Quest. Partly complete when you sent that letter and successful
when
: you get to report back.
:
: Cynthia,
: Way too much time on my hands, tried of hearing about people who deserve
: awards and don't have them and willing to do something about it.
