Greetings,

I usually do not reply to these questions, but speaking from personal experience (one who listened to these types of folk), I felt a need and desire to say what I have noticed. I listened and believed the things I heard. "They do not want our input," They really do not want new members to have any fun," etc. I could list numerous times I was told this by someone I repected and thought understood my desire to be involved. What eventually happen my eyes were opened by not the "they" in our group, but by the person I had been listening to.

To make a long story short, I began asking "they" what I could do to become more of the SCA I wanted to beleive in. The study, the fun - and yes it is fun to research the event or the gown I want to make. But I have also learned that the peers have more fun than remaining in a tight little group that wants to control you. I have meet more people who want to encourage me to grow and always ask "See you at...?" I love going to other groups events, kingdom, baronial, it doesn't matter - it is always fun to see old friends and make new ones.

I guess what I am trying to say, though it is hard sometimes, be assured that eventually people figure these personalities out.

  YIS,
