"Playing the victim" is definitely a favorite tactic
of troublemakers. Its amazing what kind of sympathy
can be generated when someone whines about being
persecuted. It draws people - especially newcomers -
into instant us vs. them dramas.
Troublemakers definitely know how to capitalize on the
SCAers instinct to help those who seem wounded or
helpless. The pity card is a powerful weapon,
especially when used by people with hidden agendas.
Asking folks to stop gossiping would be a start, but I
don't think there's any point in suggesting it. What
is that saying
no one raindrop believes itself
responsible for the flood?
Telling people to listen to both sides of any story is
also a good theory, but far too often the troublemaker
doesnt think to tell the other side that they need to
be out there sharing their side of things too. ;)
That, and reasonable people are often reluctant to
lower themselves to "psycho gossip games.
Anyway, I definitely think Playing the Victim should
be on the Flagged Behaviors list.
