Rattan, being a naturally growing item, gets thicker as it grows.  As such, 
the exact diameter is a bit varried.  Every fighter has his or her own 
preference for how thick a sword they use, as well as length.  I don't think 
there is anything that would give us an accurate answer to your question. 
1.25" is our minimum sword width, and that can be achieved with a piece of 
rattan slightly smaller than that.  Many fighters prefer to have rattan 
that's at least 1.25" so that there are no questions as to the legality of 
their sword at inspection point.  Some find that 1 3/8" is the right weight 
for them.  Some are strong enough to swing 1.5" or even heavier.  It's a 
preference thing.
