[Ansteorra] The real problem . . .

While talking off list to some of the old hats, we've had some things
brought to our attention that makes the whole Principality discussion moot.
It seems that this Kingdom, by and large has two major problems that both
hurt us as a whole, and restrict the formation of Principalities in the
first place; population and officers.

Two of the main qualifications for ANY group of ANY size are that it must
have a steady population, and MUST have its officer positions filled to be
in line with Kingdom Law and Corpora. I know, at least in my Barony, there
are a lot of old hats that have been keeping things going for some time, and
are tired. Some, I fear, do it only out of duty because no-one else is
stepping up. "I'll do it if no-one else will" is a sure sign of duty. I've
said that very thing myself before.

Population is in flux and a lot of old hats are leaving, or have left and
probably won't come back. Why is this? There doesn't seem to be the new
recruiting that needs to be happening. So, I challenge all of you to fix
this.

If you are in support of your Shire, Canton, Barony, Province, Region and
most especially your Kingdom, then step up. Those of you that have been
hanging around in the wings, step into the light. You newbies, step-up to
the plate. Become an Officer, or at least a deputy. I'm sure you'll find
people who have been-there-done-that most willing to train and mentor you. I
was the Baronial Herald of my last Barony. Constance was the Baronial
Chatelain and Deputy Seneschal for our Stronghold. She had been in the
Society for about a year when she took those positions. The jobs needed
done, we stepped up. We helped more than triple the population of our former
Stronghold. We've both applied for positions in our new Barony as well, and
have been in Ansteorra less than 6 months. We will continue to find ways to
recruit here as well.

To the veterans; mentor, teach. Pass on your wisdom to the new generation.
We know in our Barony we are blessed with a great many people possessed of
wisdom, skill and knowledge that we all could benefit from, but it needs to
be passed on.

This is what all of you must do if you are to become a Principality. Indeed,
it is what we all must do to grow as Kingdom.

Even if you have no intention of so advancing, do it for the glory of the
Dream. Taking responsibility, recruiting, teaching, leading . . . it can
only benefit your Shire, your Barony, your King and the Dream we all work to
achieve.

So our challenge to everyone, especially those that have been with us for
only a few years, is this: step-up. Volunteer at events, serve tables, work
gate, marshal, herald, or just make your hands available. Become a deputy,
find out what the job is then take over when the time comes; or take the
plunge and become a Great Officer. You may be surprised at the amount of
support you truly have. Steward or Feast Steward an event! Recruit, recruit,
recruit. Hold events just to find people. Practice the Art of War in public.
Talk to passers by and give them information. Take them to events, don't let
"I don't have a ride" be an obstacle. In short, give of yourself in duty to
King and Country to the betterment of all, don't just talk about it. We only
get back from this Dream what we put into it.

Then, when the time is right, if it's meant to be, we will have a
Principality, or two. Even if that never happens, the glory of the Dream, of
Ansteorra will be enhanced and we will shine as a beacon to the rest of the
Knowne World. Show them what it is to be Ansteorra!

Yours in Service,

Faelan and Constance Caimbeul
