[Ansteorra] The real problem . . . Officers

Very good! This is the best way to analyze and solve a group problem. The
next step is to go ask people you think would make good officers, but who
have not volunteered to be one. We can guess why they don't become officers
or we can ask them. Asking them works a bit better. Once we get enough
answers, we can begin to build programs and structures that will eliminate
the barriers to becoming an officer.
Richard Fairborn, a former Kingdom Seneschal, has set up a household whose
purpose is to encourage people to take offices and help them succeed. The
members of the household have held several jobs at various layers in the
officer hierarchy over many years and are willing to share what they know
with anyone inside or outside the household. Those in the household advance
by holding offices and performing well in them. We will gladly advise anyone
on what it takes to be a good <insert officer type here> and how to be
successful in that job. Our advice is free and worth much more than that.
We encourage others with experience as officers to find people who might
make a good officer and offer your advice and assistance. And continue to
provide advise as long as they want it.
In service,
Caelin on Andrede

Why do we have a problem finding officers?
Are people just not interested? If so, why? Are they scared of
responsibility or failure? Is real life prohibiting them? If we're going to
solve the problem, we first need to figure out what exactly the problem is.
Any comments?
Faelan
