Unto Stephanie Lilburn,

Here are some links that might help:

http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip3600.htm
- this one is mostly "easy read" with no useful documentaiton

For the below do a search for hairpins to get the lines you are looking
for:

http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/eastasia/headland-courtlife.html
http://kaladarshan.arts.ohio-state.edu/exhib/jade/txt/sui_tang.html
http://www.richeast.org/htwm/vikings/vikings.html
http://www.unc.edu/celtic/catalogue/brooches/essaypage.html
http://www.florilegium.org/files/ACCESS/jewelry-msg.html

Hope this gives you a jumping point. I would also recommend looking at
illuminations and paintings and seeing what is decorating people's
hair. Also look at dig books, because hairpins are actually something
that could have survived.
