As an FYI think the combat archers are starting to come back bit by bit 
and our numbers are not as low as some people think.  People are 
recovering from the down economy a few years back  and I hope we will 
see more on the field soon.

I think the main reasons we have so few combat archers is that there are 
so few opportunities for them to practice their craft and those 
opportunities are so inconveniently scheduled. 

Our kingdoms two main melee events,  3Kings and Bordermarch, have been 
held for the past 3 or 4 years on back-to-back weekends.  I believe that 
does the kingdom a *GREAT* disservice.  Many people will  simply have to 
choose one event or the other for whatever reason.   Add to this that 
Gothic War was held barely 30 days before that  and basically all of our 
large melee events that would support good CA are crammed into a single 
6 to 8 week period.  Not good at all.  Most armored combatants can go to 
their local fighter practices to hone their skills but Combat Archers 
must have melee events.

At Bordermarch Melees this fall we had around 30 Combat archers and 
there was almost no overlap with 3 Kings  I think that is a good number 
of archers for an event that size.

My war company hopes to field about 10 archers at war this year.  We may 
have a couple more.  And the archers we bring will be equipped with the 
necessary equipment and quantity of ammo to be effective.
