[Ansteorra] King's College - stuff to see in Houston

If you are coming down to King's College this weekend, there are a few great exhibits at the
museums you may want to check out, all museums in the near event site area: 

HOUSTON MUSEUM OF NAT'L SCIENCE:  http://www.hmns.org/
* The Royal Tombs of Ur: 
In the 1920s an excavation by The British Museum and the University of Pennsylvania Museum
revealed troves of Sumerian treasures dating back to 2600 B.C.; feature more than 400 rare and
exquisite Sumerian artifacts from the excavation of this famed Mesopotamian city. 
If you are into beading and jewelry, you must see this exhibit - wonderful items of beads, gold,
glass bowls and some sculptures.  Sadly, no fibers survived.  I intend to make a second trip. 

* BODY WORLDS 3 is the culmination of Dr. Gunther von Hagens, the German scientist and physician’s
30-year career in anatomy of never-before-seen whole-body plastinates.  Like its predecessors,
BODY WORLDS 3 presents more than 200 authentic specimens, including organs and whole body
specimens, that have undergone Plastination—von Hagens’ groundbreaking method of halting
decomposition and preserving the body after death for medical study, which he invented in 1977.

CONTEMPORARY KILN-GLASS: A Survey of works from the Bullseye Connection, 1980 to the present  
Contemporary Kiln-Glass surveys recent history, method and themes in this lesser known but highly
innovative sector of the glass art world.  Very cool exhibit. 

HOUSTON MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS: http://www.mfah.org/
Columbian Gold and variety of other exhibits (many out of SCA period), and permanent collection of
medieval and renaissance paintings. 

MENIL COLLECTION: http://www.menil.org/
Permanent collection has early Byzantine metals and icons, as well as many other culture items.
