-----With all due respect (and this is a late reply
because of my work schedule so please forgive me) I
jumped right in as soon as I joined the SCA in
Montana..small shire called Bronzehelm and became the
Archer Captain..although the people there are like
high schoolers in a popular clique and if you are not
"in" their group you will nver be an officer (I had
put the bid in 4x to replace the then current archery
captain as he was NOT doing his job and showed no
interest until someone threatened his office) I was
recognized by the current crown of that time for my
efforts to improve,educate, and recruit people and i
had been in less than 2 yrs when I rcvd my AoA and the
Companionship to the Gryphon and Pheon.
So I think if people are guided in the right direction
by fellow officers and those who are willing to show
the enthusiam to hold a difficult office..then more
power to them.  I have only been in for 5 years now
and this is my second office i've held.
