Greetings...

While this is off topic, please excuse the bandwidth as someone in the
SCA may be interested in this job posting.

There is a job opening for a Radio Tech III in the TxDOT Houston, Texas
District Office.

See the job posting at

http://www.dot.state.tx.us/employment/alljvns/jvn010479.htm

Duties will cover management of radios for the district. This will
include installation of radios in vehicles and offices, repair and
programming of radios, operation of HF SSB radio system.

Primarily the district uses 800MHz portables, mobiles and bases that are
on a 800MHz regional system (not TxDOT owned). There will be some Low
Band (47MHz) work, as well as VHF (150MHz) High Band. There will be the
usual FCC, FAA, tower and inventory related paperwork and issues.

Duties may include installation of portable sign boards, light-bars, or
other related systems on vehicles.

Pay will be dependent on experience. While the job requirements do not
require it, a FCC GROL or General Class or higher Ham License will help
considerably.

Use of service monitors, watt meters, basic radio and antenna system
trouble shooting skills are important.

This is a real "Radio Guy" job. The successful candidate will need to
know repeaters, antennas, coaxes, how they work and such

Knowledge of HF SSB radio systems would be good.

Patience and getting along well with others will be a must.

While the pay not be the best in the world, it is very doubtful you'll
get laid off as long as you do the job.

If there are any questions, I can answer some of them.

In Service,

Niklas / Paul Gilbert
