Ok, a note from an old chirurgeon here. The broken forearm from a blow is 
not just theory or myth. I spent one of my very first events as chirurgeon 
sitting in the emergency room with a fighter who had received a blow that 
fractured both his radius and ulna and trying to explain to the ER staff 
just how that happened.
While I am not a fighter or a marshal, I for one would hate to see us lose 
that protection. Arms should be used for holding a beautiful lady, not for 
stopping sword blows.
