It may depend upon the class of the family. Many peasant families  
would have had to haul water a considerable distance. Washing diapers  
takes a fair amount of water. Tivar, would you have used diapers if  
it meant carrying the water to clean those diapers several hundred  
yards in a bucket? Probably in several trips.

I guess the alternative is hauling the dirty diapers to the creek or  
other water source, although that still seems like lot of work  
considering the number of diapers probably needed.

Of course if you are wealthy enough you hire a wet nurse and at least  
another nurse, or more, for taking care of other needs.
