[Ansteorra] canvas in period

  Canvas in period was made from hemp as well as cotton.  Italy and Spain 
seem to have used it for sails.  The Arabs used cotton canvas, certainly 
(although I'm not sure about whether or not they used hemp.)   I'm in the 
middle of reading an article discussing the development of cotton in 
Northern Italy and it talks about it in great length.  (Poundage, fibers, 
what cities did what, etc.)
