Was this back in the Dark Ages, before the crossbow was invented? Or  
did the combat blunts just not work well on the birds?

Who remembers enticing the semi-wild ducks on the Pennsic lake into  
camp with pieces of bread. We had named them, "Breakfast", "Lunch",  
"Supper" and "Dinner".
