[Ansteorra] Odd question reguarding persona development

Actually the idea isn't about who you have to be, but how you should treat
others. You can have any persona you choose, farmer, Viking,
courtier..whatever. But no matter what rank in society you choose to be,
you should always treat others as if they are Lords and Ladies of the
kingdom. In other words, you may be choose a persona which in period
society may have been deemed less than reputable, i.e. gypsy, begger,
pirate-type, whatever. But while some personas would not always treat
nobles with respect, neither would they be sitting next to them at feast or
court. So mainly the idea is to insure that everyone is treated with
respect. As long as that point is kept in mind, you can indulge to the
fullest any persona you may choose.

Our fighters practice a version of this every day on the field. No matter
what armor they wear, they call their blows as if they were ALL wearing the
same exact style of armor (see the fighters hand book for details) And
though their persona in period may have been the type to take the armor of
the fighter they defeated, they don't actually due such. It's a great "real
life" example of how you can still enjoy a great persona, just with a bit of
courtesy mixed in.

I was pondering persona earlier and wondering just how close one's persona
is to be to historic people? In that manner that we are presumed to be of
the gentry (I can't remember the exact on this), this was a limited
population in period-some times and places more so that others.. Where is
the line on presumptions of our relationships of the actual people who lived
in period? This has always confused me, it is one of those paradoxes that I
have never really been able to work out to a degree I am comfortable with.

Looking forward to hearing thoughts about this topic and how different
people have worked these things out for themselves, Susan the Curious
