In regards to your question on bezants... you might want to take a look at HL 
Grizel's website, "Textiles illuminated" - it's found at 
http://medievalbeads.com and she has an entire section on Bezants. 

I think there was additional discussion of bezants on the Armour Archive, but 
in doing a quick search, did not find the thread I was thinking of...

I hope that bit of info helps, however.
