Before my hubby and I got together, my girlfriends from work and I would go out to eat, or have a get together at one of our homes, eat yummy tidbits and get a bit tipsy. We work in a jewelery store so we spent all day helping men find good gifts for thier loved ones and needed a stuff drink to remember the good points of being single. :)
   
  Most of us have all since exited singlehood, but we still exchange gifts at Valentines. I got a bouquet of flowers yesterday, and a box of chocolates, and a box of chocolate fortune cookies today - yum! Then when our cable installers came this morning, they saw the bouquet of carnations on the table and made jokes about my hubby startin' early. I just smiled.
   
  Because love comes in many forms, and friendship is one of them.

Here's another neat Valentine's day legend I found:
In Ancient Rome, February 15 was Lupercalia, an archaic rite connected to fertility, without overtones of romance. Plutarch wrote:

Lupercalia, of which many write that it was anciently celebrated by shepherds, and has also some connection with the Arcadian Lycaea. At this time many of the noble youths and of the magistrates run up and down through the city naked, for sport and laughter striking those they meet with shaggy thongs. And many women of rank also purposely get in their way, and like children at school present their hands to be struck, believing that the pregnant will thus be helped in delivery, and the barren to pregnancy.[3]
