I'm only 28 so I missed the hoops, thank goodness.  I did get to spend lots of time in drag-the-floor-gowns and big bell sleeves.  It was a rather serious version of dress-up ;)  Oh, the look on Mother's face when I took off my bonnet and got my first sunburn.
