Wow the schools must be doing a lot better then when I was in. High school didn't even have geography, that was in elementary. I remember laughing with my parents when the news talked about college students who couldn't point out North America on an globe.
Social studies was the term for government. Very basic class about the branches of government. I learned more from Schoolhouse Rock. Reflective thinking was an unknown term back then. Oh that makes me feel old.
I remember complaning with other students about having to remember dates. Then forgetting why the dates were important after taking the test.
I am also in agreement with Caelin about the importance of learning what happened, why it happened, how it affected the happenings & people around it and what came after it. My interest in that is one of the main reasons I joined the S.C.A.After reading about what has been taught, even tho I had heard for years that schools were 'teaching for the tests', I have become an envious

P.S. I also agree about the teachers. There aren't enough good ones and they aren't paid what they deserve.
The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are allowed to remain children all our lives. (Albert Einstein)
