[Ansteorra] Why?

So it's not just me. Thank you, Sir Jean Paul and Master Robin.

<mode type="curmudgeon">

I confess that I hadn't, and still don't have, the slightest idea of why
this tempest is out of its teapot, nor do I particularly care. I had
enjoyed more than I could stand rather early in the postfest.

Not only are the multiple postings annoying to me, but I also find it
annoying to see posts which obviously are replies, without any context or
quote from the post being replied to. If you are going to reply to a post
someone else made, have the courtesy to include enough of that post -- with
markings to indicate who said it and where the quoted matter begins and
ends -- to let other readers know what you're responding to.

Please remember that some of us living fossils read our mail using text-
based mail clients, which don't deal well with lines that go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on like this. Try hitting the carriage return once in a while.
The standard -- yes, there is one -- for maximum line length is about
75 characters; some put it at 80, others as low as 70.

Do please keep personalities out of it. If you want to denigrate someone,
do it offlist, please, to stay out of my killfile. I don't really care if
you wind up in my killfile, but *you* may.

Do please be civilized, or at least write as though you are. If you're a
Peer or a Noble, then you are supposed to have, and to exhibit, a demeanor
which is the equal of any in the kingdom. If you're not, then bear firmly
in mind that your writings here are on permanent public display, and we
get to see if you exhibit that demeanor. The advice I once read, that you
shouldn't post anything to a mailing list or newsgroup that you wouldn't
want to have printed on the top fold of the front page of the New York
Times, is excellent advice.

I'll be watching for posts of _general_ interest. Please, someone,
accommodate me.
