[Ansteorra] Fw: [Announcements] Waterbearing proposal request forcomments

Heat stroke is rare in Ansteorra and most kingdoms. That is good because
heat stroke is a potentially fatal condition. We do get quite a few heat
exhaustion cases. These are rarely reported as the fighter, observer,
whatever, generally either recognizes the problem and rests or is told by
someone they trust they need to rest and take on fluids. Chirurgeons and
Marshals are rarely officially involved.

The stellar record (any record in Ansteorra is stellar by definition :-) is
due to a large degree to the training and culture of the Ansteorran fighters
and participants. We understand the need for hydration and take it
seriously. Many fighters are serious athletes and behave accordingly. But it
is also greatly due to the hard work of our waterbearers who make sure safe,
palatable water (and often other things) is available, prominently
displayed, and convenient. They remind us when our attention might be so
focused we forget. Hopefully, they don't force feed anyone anything, but
gentle reminders are often effective.

I'm sorry, but I've yet to meet such a person (wants to win so bad they get
heat stroke). Could you introduce me to him/her? And for the record, there
have been no heat related marshallate "injuries" reported in the kingdom
over the last two years. There have been fighters who've bowed out of a
fight, or withdrawn themselves due to the heat, but most of them were able
to recognize either by themselves, or through the words of their
friends/family that they needed to give themselves relief.
