It becames a must when fighters don't bring water or food to an event and think they will still be standing at the end of the day.  I have seen this happen many times.

Indeed! We may play like kids, but really we're all grown-ups and capable of 
shouldering the heavy burden of keeping our own selves hydrated (with the 
exception of actual kids, of course).

It's nice that some people want to help out by passing water and snacks around 
to all and sundry, but when did it become a "must?"

Why is everything complicated???
