[Ansteorra] Houston Museum showings: Leonardo da Vinci and Pompeii and American Craft

  Coming up the next few months, there are a number of local events in the Houston area, add these to your weekend schedule: 
   
  Museum of Natl History:
  From March 7 - Sept 1, 2008, an exhibit of replicas created from the images of Leonardo da Vinci's workbooks.  "More than 500 years ago, Da Vinci designed flying machines, robots, submarines, underwater breathing gear and solar powered industries.  This remarkable internationally acclaimed exhibition displays over 60 models of Da Vinci's famous machines, inventions and designs based on ancient codices."

  Museum of Fine Arts: 
  March 2 - June 22, 2008, Pompeii:  "On August 24, 79 A.D. the world´s most famous volcano, Vesuvius, erupted with pyroclastic fury, burying the city of Pompeii in a mountain of hardened ash. The exhibition consists of 500 objects, generally excavated in the last decade, from three famous and wealthy sites. They include marble statues, wall frescoes, gold jewelry, silver dinner service and household items, bronze household items, coins, and body casts and skeletons of inhabitants who were unable to escape. "

  Houston Museum of Contemporary Crafts: 
  Feb. 23 - May 4, 2008, One of only seven cities for this exhibit:  "American craft during the last two centuries.  Integrating the various media of handcrafted furniture, ceramics, fiber and textiles, basketry, glass, wood, jewelry and metal, the exhibition represents a broad base of craft makers, including traditional craft makers, designer craftsmen of the Arts & Crafts Movement, the artists of the Work Progress Administration programs of the 1930s, post-World-War-II studio-craft pioneers and contemporary studio-craft artists. "
