In some cases gossip and bickering have played a part in destroying much more than households and groups.  There was so much gossiping and bickering with an SCA group I was involved in, some things current, but a lot of it from events in the past.  . After the final meeting it took me almost two years before I decided to try the SCA again because I got so disgusted with it.  I know people who played in the past who left the SCA for the same reasons; they're willing to do the one local event a year with their friends but won't have anything more to do with the SCA because they don't want to deal with the drama again.  It's a real turn off and it distracts people from the great things that Ansteorra, and the SCA have to offer.
