[Ansteorra] Wood -- who needs what, and where

HL Haraldr and other interested parties,
You might contact the people that remove trees for the power companies. They often must remove healthy trees and may have what you need, particularly if you ask them to look for it. They chip the smaller branches and leaves, but have to do something with the trunks that are too big to chip. Walnut and pecan do grow wild in Texas, especially around streams and rivers, and both would serve your purpose. Pecan, or hickory, is very hard wood similar in density to maple. The walnut is black walnut, I believe. Reputable tree removal services may be able to help as well. Sometimes a tree is simply in the wrong place and must come down, and they might be willing to sell you the trunk if they know you want it.
I need hardwood and can use small scraps for marquetry as well as larger pieces. I do scroll saw work and make crosses, jewelry boxes, geegaws, puzzles, and various other things. Will trade these things for raw wood, clothes, or other things that attract my attention. Contact me off list if interested. I am between Rosenfeld and Steppes, in the middle of nowhere, but travel to many central regional events. I am merchant coordinator for Coronation and will be there. Look fo the Standard Poodle service dog. I am the human attached to the other end of the leash.

In addition to location, can you say how long ago the tree was taken down and what general size
are the pieces that are available?
Unfortunately I am not yet familiar with the southern tree varieties. Still looking for fresh
cut sources for an equivalent to maple or black walnut for use with a foot powered spring pole
lathe.
I think I am willing to pay shipping for a fresh cut log of straight grain decent hardwood in a
7' section and about 10-12" diameter that didn't come from a tree trashed by wind.
If anyone has something like that, apply a couple coats of latex paint on the cut ends or
submerge it in a stream or something and drop me a note so we can discuss details of getting it.
If anyone knows of a source for that type of wood, please let me know.
Only one of my projects requires a 7' piece, the rest would work from a 1.5-3' lengths.
Thanks,
Haraldr Bassi, Bjornsborg
