I think the main thing is the difference between "speaking forsoothly" and being in persona. Putting on a pseudo-renaissance-england speach pattern is not being in persona.
I am in full favor of the separate list for this 'tavern' activity and keeping this list a place for plane speak and easy sharing of information.
