[Ansteorra] Emailing: The Medieval Way

When I was on the SCA cooks list, they did the medival style place.  We called it the Rock, had everything you could think of, giant kitchen, giant craftroom, all the activites on the land in flurries of mead making ie bee keeping, fishing, animal husbandry.  It was big and airy, warm and cozy, a libary to study in.  A well loved place.

Would be nice to see a place grew in our minds here.

More Pooky opinion: ... ready the delete button.

It's a lousy thing that computers are necessary in a medieval
historical recreational society.

But I think, I think I know an answer that would make this modern
cyber pill easier to swallow:

What if this E-List were like a tavern or an inn. Say the Dark Star
Tavern and when we are in here (posting) we could <maintain our
personas> and relate to each other as we would and as though we were
meeting at a tavern in the Kingdom of Ansteorra.

To spark the imagination I'll toss a few examples from below my cuff:

Oh hey dids't though hap notice this flier tacked to the message
board, inviting the entirety of the Kingdom to attend House Wolfstar's
event February 27- March 1 THIS VERY WEEKEND?!!

or

In this hall would there be a scribe to translate " Pardon me, but a
hippopotamus just trampled your yurt " into Latin?

or

{Pooky opens the doors to the hall yet the massiveness of the figure
still eclipses the light from the sun, whos beams strain to enter the
realm of such a hallowed hall}
"Ahay! everybody!"
"Ahay pooky."  Some say in response.
Nay Friends! Say as tho you love me as much as I love YOU!
"Ahay! Everybody!?!"
"AHAY POOKY!!!"

"My thanks for the love! It is with joy in my heart and with much
happiness I announce a 'Pooky Sighting' will be attainable at Gulf
Wars!"

and so

Much as I do = whatever blathering, opinion, or announcement you need
make could be framed and lilted as though it were given at a place
within our Society. Making the then, the now.

More opinion: I do think it could be fun and I think it could make
what must be (this form of communication and information dispersal) I
think it could make the E-lists "more real" (as we would have it, when
we Creatively Anachronise The~Dream)

Thank you for your imagination,
Pooky ~ Dream Wielder

What do you find lacking [ I sighed ] in the public announcement and request for
comments the board made in June of last year
<http://lists.ansteorra.org/htdig.cgi/ansteorra-ansteorra.org/2008-
June/061382.html> and the equally-broadly-distributed post answering
questions generated in response to that announcement that went out
shortly after
<http://lists.ansteorra.org/htdig.cgi/ansteorra-ansteorra.org/2008-
June/061470.html>?

Anyone who (1) receives board announcements by subscription
<http://lists.sca.org/listinfo/announcements>, (2) reads the board
announcements website <http://sca.org/BOD/announcements/>, or (3)
subscribes to any e-mail list to which announcements from the board are
routinely forwarded (such as this one) had months to ask questions or
express opinions before any changes were made.  Anyone who doesn't is,
presumably, not that interested.  (I mean, it's not exactly hard.)
