Since you brought up the Orthodox monastery, I also want to remind
folx that art may not truly reflect the clothing during the time it
was painted, or the time the portrait is set in.  Orthodox icons are
notorious for this.  We have an icon of Sts. Constantine and Helena,
and they're in more ancient clothing that would have been contemporary
for them.  The icon was written and reference more archaic clothing,
such as older Imperial clothing.

I think.  This is all going off remembering the icon at the house, and
only one cup of coffee.
