Subject: Gulf Wars A&S Stuff

The war is only a week away! Time to think about what you have planned for
various days and finish your preparations.

On the A&S front, it looks to be a busy and entertaining war this year.
(Please check the event schedule, available on the gulfwars.org website as
well as in hardcopy (site book) at the war.)

*Classes* -- Gulf Wars Collegium, in concert with Early Period Life,
Al-Mahala, and many others, has gathered a wide range of instructors
teaching on a slew of topics throughout the war week. In addition to formal
classes, look out for Solars and Artisans Rows sessions for more informal
gatherings and instruction. Our own RUGA will be on hand as well for those
wanting to coordinate degree requirements and course approvals. (For any
Meridians lurking on the list, RUM will be there also.) Class listings are
available on the website for those wishing to plan ahead.

*A&S War Point* -- The A&S Champions Battle for a War Point will be held on
**Thursday*** *at Bede Hall and Collegium Tent 5. The A&S will be open for
populace viewing from 1:00-3:00 in the afternoon. This year, Gleann Abhann
will be represented by THL Pol Uto and his lute. Our runners up will also
have their works on display: THL Charles Pierre de Bourbon (Elizabethan
costume) and Lady Lewen de Wakefield (illumination (Bedford Hours)). Please
come see the artistic endeavors that the known world is bringing to our
lands. (*Laurels*, please note that there will be a rules meeting at the
end of this competition.)

*Open A&S* -- The Meridies-Gleann Abhann Open A&S will be held on
**Friday**at Bede Hall from 8:00am-4:00pm. This competition is open
to all and past
years have demonstrated that it is a favorite for novices as well as
experts. The populace will vote to help determine the winners so please
come out before judging ends (3:00pm) to ensure your voice is heard. If you
have a piece of static or performing arts that you'd like to present, please
bring it out. There are no categories per se and documentation requirements
are not stringent. Many laurels, especially those from the hosting
kingdoms, will be there as well as members of Gleann Abhann's Silver Lamp
and Meridies' Velvet Owl. This is a great opportunity to mingle and chat
with other artisans--whether or not you are entering the competition.

*Darkwood A&S* -- Working in tandem with the Open A&S this year, Clan
Darkwood's "A&S in Everyday Life" (all things practical) will also host SCA
Life for the Open A&S. This will also run from 8:00am-4:00pm on
**Friday**in Collegium Tent 5 (on the basketball court). This A&S
will also use
populace voting but will tally separately from the Open A&S for
winners/prizes.
*
Brewing & Vintning Competition* -- On **Thursday** afternoon starting at
1:00pm, the IKBG (Inter-Kingdom Brewers Guild) will host this brewing and
vintning competition in Collegium Tent 4 (near Artisans Row). Please
contact Mistress Jane Beaumont (beaumont AT netdoor DOT com) if you have
questions.

*Fiber to Finish* -- Again this year, there will be a Fiber-to-Finish
challenge. Stop by Artisans Row to sign up and receive forms and
instructions. The challenge will run the entire week with results due on
Friday. See the site book for more details (this event is listed within the
Collegium schedule).

*First Known World Dance Competition* -- Culminating a week of nightly balls
and daily dance instruction will be the First Known World Dance Competition
on **Friday** night beginning at 9:00pm in the Main Hall. All dancers are
encouraged to enter the competition. Those entering may be couples or
larger groups depending on the dance. You may supply your own recorded
music or musicians or there will be musicians present to attempt your music.
Entries will be judged on a variety of aesthetic characteristics and a
goodly number of fine prizes will be awarded. Please see the European Dance
section of the website or the site book for details.

If you have questions about any of these, please feel free to contact me on
or off list and I will attempt to answer them.
