Some of it was religious, some fashion, but remember that a lot of our time 
period was in a mini ice age and those castles did not have very good 
central heat, so most covered their heads for warmth... indoors and out.

Recently, I attended a traditional Catholic mass, and about 90% of the women 
had their hair veiled. Does anyone know if women in our period were known to 
be veiled at all times for religious reasons, as opposed to fashion reasons? 
I've become somewhat enamoured with the idea of veiling. =D
