[Ansteorra] WHITE SCARF QUESTION

Baroness Alys's point is quite correct. "Cadet" and "squire" are not
titles in the SCA. They are relationship-descriptors. The examples
you give, "Lord so and so, Cadet to Don x", and "HL so and so, Squire
to Sir y" are forms of address, describing a relationship, but that
usage is not a title. Not all titles are forms of address, and many forms of address are not titles.

"Mistress Rhiannon ferch Cian, Cadet to Don Robin" is a correct form of
address for Mistress Rhiannon in an SCA context. However, "Cadet to so
and so" is not a title.

@Piet: In other contexts, such as the modern military, Cadet may be used as a title, but in the SCA context, it is not. It is a relationship-descriptor. "Cadet Rhiannon" is not correct usage in an SCA context. Just because people use that form does not make it correct.

no, you would not address someone as "cadet so and so", just like you
would not use the titles Protege, squire or Apprentice before a
persons name.

I have, however called a great many people onto the list as "Lord so
and so, Cadet to Don..." or "His Lordship, Squire to Sir..." These are
commonly used, and are well accepted.

None of the student titles or insignia is officially recognized or
protected as I recall, however each one represented a formal
relationship between a teacher and student, and part of that
relationship is public recognition.
