Who are we to stop Squire John from calling himself Squire John? It is not a title that is correct. But since it is not a title and therefor not "protected" why not? Perhaps "Cadet Rhiannon" is not correct for her. But if Cadet Bob wishes to call himself that who are you to tell him he can't? As I was always told the term cadet came from Cyrano which had a cadet company. So I would say that it is in the spirit of where the term came from in the first place. 

Anyway as I said before. YMMV

Baroness Alys's point is quite correct.  "Cadet" and "squire" are not
itles in the SCA.  They are relationship-descriptors.  The examples

no, you would not address someone as "cadet so and so", just like you
ould not use the titles Protege, squire or Apprentice before a

I have, however called a great many people onto the list as "Lord so
nd so, Cadet to Don..." or "His Lordship, Squire to Sir..." These are
ommonly used, and are well accepted.
None of the student titles or insignia is officially recognized or
rotected as I recall, however each one represented a formal
elationship between a teacher and student, and part of that
elationship is public recognition.
