I can remember years of being absolutely unable to sleep at an event because of : dumdumdumdum dadadumdum...which was the only beat any drummer seemed to know for a while...LOL

Widespread middle-eastern drumming didn't really get started until
around '86 or so. That's when I bought my first dumbek, although I owned
a number of other drums at the time. Prior to that drumming was pretty
much confined to Thunder camps.
I do remember the juggling fever, followed by the Mah Jongg craze. I
don't know if either of those were kingdom-wide, but they certainly
dominated the central area.
