I think this event is a perfect time to celebrate the best of those times and mark how far we have come. The SCA does much the same thing by re-enacting the best parts of the middle ages instead of the plague<G>

Perhaps, since the SCA has taken on a more serious perspective of history since
then, it's good that so much of the early days seems to have disappeared into
thin air (with Merlin).
One scene I remember and have always meant to write a poem about was the
long procession of women and children emerging out of the swirling mists and
struggling to reach their goal at the top of the hill in the very early
morn...to the Porta-Johns..
