In my experience on computer networks, some trolls appear to thrive on
disruption and even negative attention, and making a huge deal out of
it seems to encourage them.  (I think a few reputable people
disagreeing very strongly, very briefly, and very occasionally works
well enough.)

Actually, I'm afraid he didn't.  The closest quotation ever found was
the bad-men-combine quote, but it was "a call for politicians to unite
