Welcome to Battlemoor!
The chirurgeons hope you are safe during all your enjoyment! A few
reminders and precautions if you please-

*Elevation- The Colorado Ski Industry estimates one fourth of travelers
will experience some form of altitude sickness. Usually this is only mild,
with experiences such as headaches, mild nausea, or tiredness and can be
relieved with hydration and rest. Remember, alcohol will only worsen the
effects, so if you are already having an altitude headache, a hangover headache
will only compound things! If you experience any symptoms that are more than
mild, please visit the Chirurgeon's Tent.

* Sun- Sunscreen! The sun's rays are not filtered as much, so even when
they feel less intense, they are, in fact, more intense. Cool days and cloudy
days still pose a risk of sunburn. Bring lip moisturizer and sunscreen for
exposed areas of skin if you are not used to high sun exposure. Consider
sunglasses, as cloudy days at high altitude can actually be harder on your
eyes than sunny days, because of increased glare. Please be extremely
cautious with babies and children - a sun hat is not enough and sunscreen will
need to be reapplied! Reflected light alone up here can sunburn fair skin
even when it is in the shade! As a pediatrician, I have seen 2 and 3 month old
babies blister from sun exposure of less than 30 minutes. We are fortunate
that most period clothing covers exposed skin, but it is still wise to be
mindful.

*Hydration- Due to the summer sun, elevation and dry air you will lose
water more quickly. Carefully watch your water intake as well as the intake of
the young ones that may be around you or in your camp. Fighters or those
wearing heavy clothing may need to up to double their normal water intake!

*Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!- The Colorado Division of Wildlife
estimates 4 mountain lions per 30 mi sq. Combine that with the loud banging
and noises found at war and it means the vast odds are that we will not
encounter one, but you should still be cautious when allowing small children and
pets to wander.

*Creepy crawlies- For the most part, most spiders you encounter will not
be poisonous. The only one of concern would be the widow spiders, with the
western widow as more common. They usually nest near the ground in dark
undisturbed areas. Fortunately, widow spiders are not aggressive and rarely
bite except when provoked such as when sat on, accidentally pressed with the
hand when moving wood, etc. Most areas around site have been disturbed
enough to encourage this species to move along, however just remind children not
to stick hands in hollows of trees and in undisturbed woody piles.

If you find yourself in need of first aid (bandaid, basic wound care for
scraped elbows, armor bites, etc) please come by the Chirurgeon Tent located
next to Security. You can also ask of any person wearing a chirurgeon
baldric, belt favor or other display of the chirurgeon badge. If no one is
available at the tent, please contact any member of your Battlemoor staff that
is carrying a radio so they might summon one of us.

Wishing everyone a safe trip and a safe War,
Lady Keterlyn von Eltz
Outlands Kingdom Chirurgeon

Mundanely,
Dr Kate Flather
