1st round: one-on-one. Winner becomes team leader.
2nd Round: Team vs. team. Losers become part of the winner's army.
Continue in like manner until there are only two teams left. The leader 
of the winning team becomes king. The interesting part of this is you 
can be killed in every round but the first and still be King, so long as 
your team wins every round.

Oh, there are myriad ways to do this: election from general membership, 
elections from Peers only, all Landed Nobles, Landed Nobles and GOoFs, 
and so on. You could even rotate the way the Witan is elected every two 
years or some such. I think my initial proposal back in 1988 or so was 
that we have a Witan where half the members were elected from the 
general populace and the other half appointed by the Crown from the 
Landed Nobility. In effect, a House of Commons and of Nobles.
