You may not be giving the children enough credit here. Most are exposed to the situation of their classmates at school being raised by same sex two mothers or two fathers. They may be more exposed to it than the rest of us.

SAme-sex consorts will leave the children confused....2 males (more likely)
and little girls have no one to "look up to."  The situation could also go
vice versa, but is less likely.
