Leading an army in battle is neither the largest nor the most important
role of a sovereign, in period or in the SCA.  Neither a fighting
tournament nor an A&S competition select for the more important traits a
monarch should have. In fact, NO SYSTEM past or present has a consistent
record of selecting good leaders.
