I've been up these stairs before and I'm at work, so I won't go into
it with any depth now.
- Having no membership requirement is a long-standing tradition in
most of the SCA. In the earliest days, someone who participated in
SCA activities was defined to be a member.
- I distinguish SCA Inc, a California corporation with some
subsidiaries, from the Society, all those who are playing.
I consider the Society to be the important part and the corporation
to be a means to that end, and often a destructive or useless means.
- Therefore, I feel that contributions of time, sweat, and heart to be
important, and tithes to a Board are not.

It used to be that you got some actual benefits from membership:
Tournaments Illuminated and kingdom newsletters.
