Greetings From Alina:

As a former MoC, my experiences have been that it was quite aggravating when parents would expect me to watch their children during an event. I had parents who actually thought that was what the MoC office was for. I had many parents just send them directly without even meeting me. That was before background checks that we now do. Many times I had to chase the parents down with their children to get information. I tried to do name tags on the said children with the parents SCA/mundane name along with a sign in list. Many parents were pissed that I was taking up their time trying to get this information. Then there were parents didn't come back to retrieve their children when it was time. I actually had to get a herald to do a lost child announcement.

While it was a very rewarding experience, it was also stressful. Stressful because of the parents inability to take what I and other folks did for their children important enough to give us proper support and interest.

Lastly I do want to say locally and kingdom-wide I know and see many responsible parents, it's just the bad apples who spoil it for the rest of us.

The MoC office is not a babysitting service. Parents give your time and support so we can concentrate on the activities we and others planned that we hope your child is enriched by.
