Statistically speaking, your niece is in far more danger from the people that you trust than from strangers. 93% of juvenile sexual assault victims know their attacker, and out of that, 34.2% of attackers were family members.


This 'blame-the-parents' turn that the thread is taking is sickening. The only person that is ever to blame for rape is a rapist. The only way to stop someone from being raped is to never be in the same space with a rapist, which is impossible, because they don't wear signs or glow purple and they look just like your good friend, who is a good parent, that you have known for years. I hope that this particular inroad is complete, and that we can move to another topic, or at least another subtopic.
