[Ansteorra] Children in the SCA

The concern, Rose...is that the SCA does not revolve around Children's
events.
Perhaps some people feel that is sad or wrong...but it *IS* true.

Allow me to illustrate:
An *exhausted* fighter (Lord UpnCumin') retreats from the field...after
having (barely) been beaten by Duke HotStick (who took him out of the
tourney.)
He goes to his tent, to lick his wounds.
In the meantime, milord SicqueWaste has singled out Duke Hotstick's daughter
(because her Parents are attending the field, and have momentarily lost
track of her...and because, after all, her Daddy's a *Duke*, and she doesn't
have to listen to the MoC.)
Lord UpnComin' sees these two heading off in the woods....but he's a single
guy, and he's just had the hardest fight of his life.
Amazingly....he DOESN'T PAY IT ANY ATTENTION.
The unthinkable happens, and the SCA is sued (again.)
In the ensuing *years* of testimony, it is *proven* (by witnesses, and his
own confused testimony) that UpnComin' *must* have seen these two...and yet
did nothing.
WOW! The SCA *MUST* be Liable for a GAZILLION DOLLARS in damages.

*THAT*, Lady Rose...is the concern.
(and please don't pick my fabrication to pieces...I created it in only
slightly more time than it took to type. The reality *could* be much worse
and more-convoluted.)

Absurd?
Perhaps....yet ask any Lawyer worth their salt...(to quote Heinlein):
Straining at gnats and swallowing camels is a required course in Law School.

NOW.
Am I making a case for children *not* being allowed at events?
By Elizabeth's Ruff, NO!
What I *AM* saying is that our Legal team (whoever they are) needs to set
*SOMETHING* in motion to delineate that we are *NOT* a Children's
Organization....we are a child-FRIENDLY Organization (and that distinction
*MUST* be Legally made....somehow.)

I am not a Lawyer....I'm just a reasonable human being.
I am also firmly of the belief that just because a Lawyer (or even,
necessarily, the Law) asserts it...does *not* necessarily make it valid, or
reasonable.
A Lawyer is working (in the end) on behalf of their Client, not on behalf of
what is True, or Right.
I rely on *OUR* Lawyers to protect us from other Lawyers.....just like I
rely on Sanitation workers to ensure my street is free of garbage.

Alden
(...sadly remembering why I stopped going to events.)
