Another thing to think of in that aspect is women from the military, who
are not only used to doing their own things, but have been harassed or put
down in the military if they are thought to be "unable" to do certain
things. Women who hold a sense of pride for doing everything themselves can
have a hard time adjusting if courteous men "just help them" without
asking. So, for courtesy's sake, it is always good to ask if you may help
rather than assume helping is OK. Just my 2 cents.
